Perfect Your Cup

Whether you prefer pour-over, French Press, espresso, or cold brew, these step-by-step instructions ensure a perfect cup every time. Explore different methods and create your ideal coffee moment at home.

Espresso

What You’ll Need

  • Fresh coffee beans (we use Cala Coffee’s Work in Progress blend)
  • Burr grinder
  • Espresso machine
  • Scale (accurate to 0.1g)
  • Tamper
  • Timer

Brew Ratio

1:2 - 1:2.5 (Example: 18g in → 36-45g out)

Step-by-Step

1. Grind & Dose

Grind 18g of coffee to a fine, sand-like texture. Use a scale for accuracy.

2. Distribute & Tamp

Evenly distribute grounds in the portafilter and tamp firmly with even pressure.

3. Extract the Shot

Insert the portafilter and start the shot immediately. Aim for a 25-30 second extraction. Stop at 36-45g yield.

4. Taste & Adjust

  • Too sour & fast? Grind finer.
  • Too bitter & slow? Grind coarser.

5. Enjoy

Drink as is or use it as the base for lattes, cappuccinos, and more.

French Press
  • Ingredients: Cala Coffee beans, filtered water.
  • Ratio: 1:15 (1g coffee to 15g water).
  • Grind Size: Coarse.
  • Instructions:
  1. Boil water to 200°F (93°C).
  2. Add 30g of coffee to the French Press.
  3. Pour 450g of water over the grounds.
  4. Stir to ensure even saturation.
  5. Place the lid on and steep for 4 minutes.
  6. Press the plunger down slowly and serve.

Pour Over
  • Ingredients: Cala Coffee beans, filtered water.
  • Ratio: 1:16 (1g coffee to 16g water).
  • Grind Size: Medium-fine.
  • Instructions:
  1. Boil water to 200°F (93°C).
  2. Rinse the filter and preheat your brewer.
  3. Add 20g of coffee to the filter.
  4. Bloom: Pour 40g of water over the grounds and wait 30 seconds.
  5. Continue pouring in a slow, circular motion until you reach 320g.
  6. Brew time: 2:30-3:00 minutes.
  7. Enjoy the clean, bright flavor profile of Cala Coffee.
Cold Brew
  • Ingredients: Cala Coffee beans, filtered water.
  • Ratio: 1:7 (1g coffee to 7g water).
  • Grind Size: Coarse.
  • Instructions:
  1. Add 80g of coffee to a cold brew maker.
  2. Pour 560g of cold water over the grounds.
  3. Stir gently to ensure all grounds are saturated.
  4. Cover and steep in the fridge for 12-24 hours.
  5. Strain and enjoy a smooth, refreshing cold brew.
